Jennifer Ehle plays coolly intelligent but emotionally percolating Elizabeth Bennet, and she doesn't make a faulty move. Colin Firth, hamstrung at first by his character's rigidity, matches Ehle as the socially loftier Darcy — realizing before she does that they're soul mates.
